Dr. Howard Carlson started his career in the state of Washington where taught agriculture science, math and earth science courses at the middle school and high school levels. In 1990 Dr. Carlson was recognized as a state and national level teacher of the year. He earned his B.S. degree from Washington State University in 1985, master’s degree from Heritage University in 1990 and completed his doctorate at Washington State University in 1997.

As an administrator Dr. Carlson has served at the building and central office levels; first becoming a superintendent in 1997. He has served as an assistant superintendent and superintendent in the states of Washington, Minnesota and now Arizona.   

James Serbin has been a certified public accountant since 1981.   Graduating from Southern Illinois University with a B.S. degree in Accounting in 1980, Mr. Serbin began his professional career with Price Waterhouse Coopers in Chicago, Illinois and Phoenix, Arizona in their audit and tax departments. For several years, Mr. Serbin owned a successful public accounting practice in Phoenix.

After working in central California for 7 years as the Chief Financial Officer of a publically traded food company and a controller for a large manufacturing company, Mr. Serbin returned to Arizona in 2005, accepting the Business Manager position with the Wickenburg Unified School District.

Mr. Serbin is married and has 3 grown children. Jim and his wife ride horses and enjoy time with their 5 horses and 6 dogs. Mr. Serbin also serves on the governing board of the Yarnell Elementary School District and the Peeples Valley Fire District.

Carissa Hershkowitz started her career in Deer Valley USD, after completing her BA in education at ASU in 1993. She joined Wickenburg USD in 1997.  Since that time, she has served in many capacities for the district including English Language Learner teacher, Title 1 / Reading Recovery teacher, and Spanish teacher. She was highly involved in the implementation of the Reading First grant, and is currently serving as the Director of Human Resources and Student Services.

Although active in the district, Mrs. Hershkowitz’s most valued time is spent with her three children, two of whom attend Wickenburg schools. Her third child will enroll in kindergarten at Hassayampa this fall.      

Mr. Moran currently is the Director of Special Services for Wickenburg Unified School District. He has been in that position since 2001.  Prior to serving as the director he was a Special Education Teacher at Wickenburg High School. He began teaching in the district in 1981 and also coached athletics.

Ms. Hespen has worked for the Wickenburg Unified School District since 2000. She has served as associate principal at Wickenburg High School and is currently Executive Director of Educational Services for the district and principal for Festival Foothills.   

Mr. Ty Springer has worked for the Wickenburg Unified School District since 1996. He has served as Operations Director for Wickenburg Unified School District for this time.
   

 

 Mike Riggin

Mr. Riggin has worked for WUSD since 2002. He served as District Mechanic for 5½ years and is currently the Director of Transportation. Using the district's 17 busses, Mike oversees the operation of 11 regular daily routes and 1 route for special education students.
