A Message from our Superintendent

Dr. CarlsonWickenburg Unified School District (WUSD) has an excellent reputation for educating its students and is focused on balancing a core curriculum of math, science, language arts, and social studies with enriching areas such as the fine arts, physical education, technology, and Career and Technical Education (CTE).

According to information released by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) concerning the A-F Grading System for public school districts, WUSD earned a “B” Grade for the second consecutive year, ranking 20th overall in the unified category  with a score of 138 points out of a possible 200. At 138 points, WUSD tied for the 11th highest score among unified school districts and was 20th overall in the unified category (Please note: when more than one school earned a particular score, they would be tied and ranked accordingly, i.e., more than one school earned 138 points, all were ranked 11th).

Individually, we had one “A” and three “B” schools. Our “A” school is Festival Foothills, located on the southern end of the District. We were impressed as they tied for the 15th highest score among all schools in the state (elementary, middle and high school) and are ranked 40th out of 1,268. Hassayampa also ranked very high and is now only two points away from earning an “A”.

WUSD is becoming a lighthouse school district, and our students are the big winners. They will continually grow academically and will be better prepared for continuing their education through our WUSD staff’s tremendous efforts and hard work towards fulfilling our focus statement, specifically moving each student to the next level academically.

Vision - A picture of what we can become

  • Every Child has Hope
  • Every Student is a Graduate
  • Every Graduate has a Dream

Mission- Why we exist

The mission of the Wickenburg Unified School District is to be a proponent of a comprehensive, research-based education program which focuses on effective school factors to meet the needs of our students, staff, families, and the Wickenburg Unified School District Community.

Focus Statement- How we are targeting our efforts

We are creating A+ schools where there is a laser-like focus on the Essential Elements of Instruction (EEI) and moving each student to the next academic level.

Sincerely,

 Howard C. Carlson
